Massa ready to give up home win

Brazilian Felipe Massa says he is ready to give up a home victory this weekend to help Ferrari teammate Michael Schumacher in the drivers' championship

Following his retirement from the Japanese Grand Prix, Schumacher needs to win the Interlagos race if he wants to have a chance of taking the title.

Even if the does win, the German will need Renault rival Fernando Alonso to fail to score a point to clinch his eighth title before retiring from Formula One.

Massa, a one-time winner this season, says he would love to take victory on home ground, but he claims he is ready to help Schumacher as much as possible.

"The Brazilian Grand Prix can be quite difficult in terms of being able to maintain concentration on the job of driving and working with the team on the track, said Massa on Ferrari's website, "but I know I am able to put the events and attention from outside the track to one side and concentrate on what I would like to do which is to win the race.

"It will be a difficult target to achieve but I am very motivated to do well here.

"Of course, it is obvious that, given the situation in the drivers' classification, for me to win the Brazilian Grand Prix, that would mean that Alonso is in a points scoring position, whereas if he is not, then my race will take on a different direction and it will be no problem for me to help Michael.

"I will even be happy to help him."

Massa will also have a fight in his hands in Brazil, the Ferrari driver battling to keep third place in the standings from Giancarlo Fisichella.
