Magny-Cours test, day 2: Heidfeld top
Nick Heidfeld topped the times on the second day of testing at Magny-Cours, lapping over half a second quicker than his nearest rival Juan Pablo Montoya
It was the second day of running for the German, and despite going off at the chicane in the morning and damaging a front wing, he was able to complete a pre-US Grand Prix Bridgestone test and evaluation programme. Kimi Raikkonen takes over tomorrow (Friday).
"The car felt much better today than yesterday, as the lap times prove," said Heidfeld. "The handling and balance were really good, and we made some excellent progress."
Montoya completed 89 laps for Williams-BMW, edgingthe team's test driver Marc Gene by 0.58s.
Jenson Button's best lap for Benetton-Renault was 1.53s off Heidfeld's benchmark time, with Tomas Enge only 0.17s slower than Button in his second full day of running for Prost-Acer. The Czech driver gets a final half-day of running with the French squad tomorrow.
