Liuzzi: V10 hurting Toro Rosso
Vitantonio Liuzzi believes that Scuderia Toro Rosso's performances are now being hindered by their V10 engine
The Italian team are the only one on the grid to run with a restricted V10, and many of their rivals had complained earlier this year that they would gain an advantage from the older power-units.
However, after Liuzzi failed to make it past Q1 at Hockenheim, he has expressed his frustration that the equivalency formula is instead working against them.
"It was a difficult qualifying and you can see now how we are beginning to suffer because of the lack of development on the V10 engine," he said. "We are struggling more and more.
"But overall, I think I did the best with what I had, even if I am disappointed not to have made it into the next part of the session."
Liuzzi's teammate Scott Speed ended his qualifying session in the barriers after losing control on the exit of Turn One in Q1.
"When you're running towards the back of the field, you have to find new ways to get media coverage and I guess I did that today," joked the American.
"But seriously, I had been riding that kerb all weekend with no problem, but then today in qualifying, I didn't do anything different in the way I tackled it, but the car seemed to get much more upset and I lost control of it.
"At first, I kept my foot down on the throttle, because everything felt normal, but then I had a hard time bringing the car back into line and it spat me across to the outside. How bad is the car? I didn't look!"
