Kubica will decide on future 'very soon'

Although the Pole is expected to remain at his current Renault team, with reports claiming he is being courted by Mercedes GP understood to be wide of the mark, Kubica has not yet committed himself to his 2011 plans.

But with AUTOSPORT understanding that options on Kubica's contract get activated after the British Grand Prix, it is likely that what he will do next year should be settled before the end of next month.

When asked in Valencia if he will drive for Renault next season, Kubica said: "I don't know. I haven't made my decision yet."

Renault has made no secret of the fact that it wants to tie Kubica up to a long-term deal, and perhaps mould its future around him, but the man himself is unsure about how he sees his future panning out.

"I am not the kind of person who thinks in three years' time, I am not the kind of person who is thinking in three weeks' time, to be honest," he said. "When people started talking in March or April about 2011, I was not even thinking about it.

"What the future will bring we will see. I believe that every single person, everything, has its own time, so timing is very important. But I don't think you have to stress the timing too much. Very soon I will have to take my own decisions and then we will see."

One of the keys to Kubica committing himself to Renault will be in him seeing the outfit continue to make the strong rate of progress that has been witnessed in the early stages of the season.

Speaking about that factor, he said: "Always you hope for more progress, but I think we are doing a reasonable job with improving the car.

"Actually I think we start the season very well, so we did have really good grands prix, good weekends. We are able until now to qualifying in the top ten with every GP, which is a reasonable target, a good target before the season.

"We have to keep realistic, keep our feet on the ground and keep working. If we continue working in the right direction we can grow up and move forward."

With the Mercedes GP speculation having been dismissed by team sources, Kubica's options for elsewhere are limited if he wants a competitive seat - with McLaren, Red Bull Racing and Ferrari have also settled on their driver line-ups.

When asked if he was surprised the situation elsewhere had been sorted out so early, Kubica said: "I'm not surprised. Everybody makes their own decisions and of course, it was quite early compared to the earlier seasons - but if a situation is clear it is better to know it as soon as possible."
