Kolles says new deal a boost for Spyker
Spyker team principal Colin Kolles believes his team's new title sponsorship deal with Etihad Airways and property development company Aldar will be a big help in their bid to move up the grid
Kolles announced the major new deal in the paddock at Albert Park on Thursday afternoon, bringing further good news to the outfit that have reestablished their credibility following the difficulties with Midland.
And with team owner Michiel Mol having said earlier this week that any new investment would be used to push developments through quicker, Kolles has said he cannot underestimate the importance of the new deal.
"I think that this is very important for an F1 team, especially at these times," he told autosport.com. "For me the most important thing is to move forward.
"This is another step to where we want to be. We are a professional racing team, but the team is very stable and it is very motivated.
"This title sponsor announcement will boost everyone, it will give security, so everyone will feel more comfortable and we will deliver much better results. That is my opinion, but we are definitely not where we want to be."
Kolles confirmed that most resources would be directed to making aerodynamic improvements through the team's expanded wind tunnel programme.
"We are working flat out at our Aerolab and Brackley wind tunnels, and the Lola wind tunnel. The Brackley tunnel will be upgraded and we will go and work on two wind tunnels."
Kolles made it clear, however, that any extra money the team had to spend on improvements would definitely be spent efficiently.
"It is almost there but it doesn't mean for us that we have to spend more and more and more money to become more and more inefficient.
"We have to bring the results. The results come from wind tunnel work and aerodynamic work. This is my opinion and it is Mike Gascoyne's opinion, and this is where we focus."
