Klien to decide future on Saturday

Christian Klien will decide in the next 48 hours whether to accept an offer from Red Bull to switch to Champ Car next season

Red Bull Racing have dropped the Austrian for next year, but his bosses have offered him a paid-for drive in Champ Car if he wants it.

Speaking to autosport.com in Monza today, Klien said that he had not yet made his mind up about what to do, but said a decision would be made on Saturday. It is understood he will meet with Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz then to give his final decision.

"I will make a decision on Saturday," he said. "Now we have to discuss a lot of things in the background, but there will be a decision then about if I will take the opportunity to go to America.

"I am considering it, for sure. I am checking other options in F1 at the moment, but I am seriously thinking about Champ Car."

Mateschitz said earlier this week that he believed Klien could make a comeback to F1 in the future if he did well in Champ Car next season.

When asked about those comments, Klien said he was not so convinced about the possibility of returning to F1.

"I don't know if that is realistic," he explained. "If you go away from F1, it is very difficult to come back especially when you are away in America. They are nice words, but if it happens I don't know."

However, he did accept that remaining close to Red Bull would give him a better chance of coming back to F1 in the future.

"It would of course make it easier to come back, because they have two teams in F1. For now, I will check all the options and we will make a decision when we know what is best for me and my future."
