Kimi hopeful of more of the same
McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen heads to Monza for this weekend's Italian Grand Prix hopeful of putting another win in the bag following his success at the Belgian Grand Prix where he took his first victory of the season
The Finn is oozing confidence following his performance at Spa and after a positive test at Monza last week is optimistic of another strong result this weekend.
"I am really looking forward to racing again at Monza this weekend following the result at Spa," he said. "The car was running really well, as the win and fastest race lap demonstrated, and hopefully we will be up there at the front again. Monza has seen some real battles in the past and it would be nice to continue that trend this weekend."
Team CEO Martin Whitmarsh was satisfied with the squad's three-day test at Monza and following an intensive test programme with Michelin is confident there will be no repeat of the punctures the Michelin-shod teams suffered at Spa.
"Along with the majority of the teams, in between the two races we have resumed testing at Monza, where we completed a comprehensive programme," he said. "This included work on a modified aero package for the Italian Grand Prix, which essentially sees the front and rear wings running in a trimmed specification to achieve the low downforce required.
"Together with our partner Michelin, we also completed an intensive tyre test programme. During the test at Monza we didn't encounter any tyre problems and meanwhile we believe that the incidents at Spa were caused by tyre damage resulting from either the kerbs or debris."
