Jerez day 4: Wurz in the wet

Alex Wurz set the fastest time of the three drivers present on the final day of testing in Jerez today (Saturday), as Michelin conducting an intermediate tyre test

To ensure that the teams could test on a wet track despite the temperatures in Spain reaching 29 degrees, two trucks were used to continually dampen the circuit. The process took ten minutes, and allowed the three teams to complete roughly seven minutes of running before the track dried out and had to be soaked again.

Wurz's fastest lap was nearly two seconds quicker than Williams test driver Marc Gene could manage, but it appeared that he set the time on normal tyres, after staying out for a prolonged period right at the end of the session.

Olivier Panis was the third driver present at the test, and said that he found a couple of intermediate compounds that he quite liked.

Alex Wurz McLaren-Mercedes M 1m26.418s 103
Marc Gene Williams-BMW M 1m28.251s 88
Olivier Panis Toyota M 1m28.652s 68
