Jenson Button Q&A

Last year Jenson Button was the focus of much attention in Melbourne, but this time around he's just one of the pack, while his replacement Juan Pablo Montoya is the rookie people are watching. Having said that his debut with Benetton will be of great interest, not least to see how he compares with new team mate Giancarlo Fisichella. Benetton hasn't had a great time in testing, and Jenson admits that the cars are likely to be towards the back of the grid in this first race, but he's adamant that the situation will improve

"It's been tough. I think any winter is, especially when you're with new tyres, and a lot of new things. But it has been good testing. We've made some improvements on the car and also on the engine side, which is the big thing. If we keep doing that all the year, that's what's going to get us there really - improvements every race. I think for some teams this is going to be their biggest race of the year or whatever, but we're really looking towards the end of the year, and we know we're going to improve every race. So I'm pretty confident."

"It feels like last week - it doesn't feel like very long ago! I'm just so much more relaxed now. I'm a much more experienced driver, and I also want a much better result than last year. I think I'm even more focused than I was last year, because I'm more experienced and I know what to expect. I can just concentrate on doing what I do best, which is driving. It was a great year last year, but this year is what I'm looking to now, and I'm really, really looking forward to it. I think it's going to be a very interesting year for us."

"Definitely. People should expect a little bit more on one side because I'm more experienced, but then again nobody knows what the package is going to do, or where we're going to be on the grid. We'll see what happens."

"Hopefully really good, but that's not the main thing. More important to me is to see where we are on the grid in comparison to other teams and other people. Giancarlo is going to be one of the people that helps me the most this year to move us all forward. And hopefully next year we'll be winning races."

"It's very different obviously because of the regulations, aerodynamically. It's good, it's a nice car to drive - it's very driveable. It definitely feels an improvement on last year's car. It suits my driving style, both the change in the regulations and also this car. I'm really happy with it, but then again we don't know what it's going to be like on this circuit. We've tested at Silverstone and tested at Estoril, but nothing's quite like this circuit, so it's very, very difficult to say. It might be fantastic and you might see us in the top 10, but I don't think we'll be that far up. I think we'll be in the lower part of the grid. But I like it and there's a lot to work on there - it's a good basis."

"He's been fantastic, really cool. When he's at the circuit he's so serious, which is great, he really knows what he wants to do, which is be World Champion. He's a good person to work with, and we both want the same thing, and we'll be working together for the next couple of years."

"Much better, big time. Hopefully it will help."

"Yeah, a little bit. In November we obviously had quite a few weeks off. I stayed in England and in Monaco. Because I'd spent so much time flying I didn't really feel like going anywhere long distance where it was going to be warm, and I just stayed at home and spent some time with my family and friends and my girlfriend."

"It was fantastic. I could lie in in the morning - and some days I wouldn't go to the gym!"
