Jarno Trulli Q&A
Jordan has scored points in every race this season, although Jarno Trulli had to wait until Brazil before opening his account with a fifth place. So far his team mate Heinz-Harald Frentzen seems to have had the upper hand, but luck has not been on Jarno's side, and even at Interlagos he had to overcome a series of problems before making it home in the top six. This weekend in Imola he'll be performing in front of his local crowd and hoping to improve on last year, when he was stopped by gearbox problems. Adam Cooper spoke to the Italian ace.
"It's still a bit too early to talk, but I must say that the car is a good base to start from, so we can develop it through the season. We don't look to be so far from Ferrari, and sometimes we look like we're competitive with McLaren, so it might be that during the season we might have some good results. It might be that this season we can have a highlight somewhere. For me last year it was Monaco and Spa, and this year I hope to do it again."
"Yes of course. For example in Malaysia last year we were off the pace, and this year we were much closer and much more competitive."
"Yes. Of course there's always something to do, but they understand that they have to keep working hard. It's important that we got the Honda deal, because now we have got a factory engine you can see people working very, very hard and going for it, because they only want to win."
"It's very exciting, but it's a very tough job for everybody. It's going to be very interesting to see this little battle between us."
"Yes, we've already seen that Michelin is doing a very good job. We didn't expect that they would be quick so fast."
"I had a problem with the car. About 15 laps before the pit stop I started struggling, first with the clutch, and then the rear end of the car. It was very oversteery, so I must have had some problem, because at the beginning I was running very well. I was on one stop, so the strategy was perfect, and I was quick enough. But then the lap times were not good any more, and I was struggling a lot with the clutch. When I came into the pits we had a problem with the fuel rig, and I lost one place. And I came in one lap before it was starting to rain! So I wasn't very lucky at this stage. I didn't have enough wing for the wet conditions, so the car was really oversteering, even more than before. It was very difficult to manage with the clutch problem under braking and shifting down."
"Yes, at least it's two points after a very tough race. But if you look back at how competitive I was in the beginning, I must say it's a shame that we always have these kind of problems."
"Yes, but we just need a little bit more luck. In Brazil I was stopped by the problems, and it was not easy at all."
"I hope so!"
