Inexperience tells for Frentzen

Heinz-Harald Frentzen, who replaced Brazilian Felipe Massa at Sauber for the United States Grand Prix as a precursor to a full season with the outfit in 2003, admitted that his inexperience with the Sauber C21 undermined his race. Frentzen finished 13th, four places behind team-mate Nick Heidfeld

"This morning the balance of the car was good so I set up my car in a similar fashion for the race," said Frentzen. "Unfortunately I think my inexperience with the car got the better of me, because that setup in this afternoon's temperatures gave me so much oversteer that I quickly destroyed my rear tyres. It was a valuable lesson for me."

Heidfeld also suffered from setup difficulties, despite enjoying a whole season of experience in the Ferrari-powered car.

"Before my second pit-stop something strange began to happen in the front end and I got more and more understeer that made the car difficult to drive," said the former International F3000 champion. "We have to analyse what it was, but ninth was the best I could hope for in those circumstances."
