Imola works to start in October
The revamp of the Imola circuit, host of the San Marino Grand Prix, has been given the green light, boosting its chances of returning to the 2007 calendar
Imola's race was not included on the calendar released by the FIA last month, but a four-week gap between the Bahrain and Spanish Grands Prix suggested the Italian track could still be included.
A renovation of Imola's facilities had been demanded by F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone as a condition to keep the race in 2007.
The Italian circuit is set to be updated in a 10 million Euro project supported by the Italian government, who confirmed this week the works will begin next month and will be finished in time for next year's race.
"We confirm that the autodrome's renovation works will start on 4 October and will be finished by March," Italian Prime Ministry Undersecretary Enrico Letta told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"We'll step in to make sure the Grand Prix regularly takes place on 29 April 2007 and the following years according to the contracts agreed between Sagis and FOA."
