Imola 2: Trulli leads

Renault star Jarno Trulli set the fastest time on the second day of testing at Imola today (Wednesday). The Italian outpaced Sauber's Felipe Massa by 0.024s

Trulli completed 79 laps of the Italian track, and completed a full race distance with Renault's Melbourne-spec "A" engine. Trulli's team-mate, Fernando Alonso, set the fourth fastest time, although his attempts to complete a full race mileage were cut short by red flags.

"We ran a huge number of laps," said Pat Symonds, Renault's executive director of engineering. "Both drivers have continued to be positive in their feedback throughout their race distances, and the car is very consistent on long runs."

Ferrari tester Luca Badoer was conducting tyre test work in an F2003-GA, but shunted heavily at the Variante Alta corner. Badoer underwent precautionary tests after the crash, but has been cleared to continue driving tomorrow.

Rookie Giorgio Pantano outpaced his new Jordan team-mate Nick Heidfeld by 0.602s, while Gianmaria Bruni propped up the times for Minardi.
