I did My Best, Says Fisichella

Giancarlo Fisichella claimed he did his best in the Japanese Grand Prix and admitted Kimi Raikkonen was just too fast

The Renault driver led for most of the race but was unable to keep Raikkonen at bay on the final lap, the Finn moving ahead after a bold move on the first corner.

Fisichella, whose gap to Raikkonen was over 20 seconds at one point during the race, had to settle for second.

"It was a tough race, well not tough," said the Italian. "I knew Kimi was quick and was catching me up. I was pushing 100 percent but in the end, on the last three laps, he was behind me and on the main straight he was much quicker maybe because I was a bit slower from exit of chicane.

"But anyway I did my best. Second for me is good anyway and we are ahead in Constructors' Championship so it is good."

Renault moved two points in front of McLaren in the constructors' standings thanks to Fisichella's second and Fernando Alonso's third palces.

Fisichella had a good start to the race and was soon in the lead after pole-setter Ralf Schumacher pitted for the first time.

"The rumour was that Toyota was going to three-stop so I was quite convinced to overtake him after the pitstop and it was important to just overtake Jenson [Button] at the start," he said.
