Grapevine: Zanardi Missed F1 Test at Indy

Former Champ Car champion Alex Zanardi has revealed that his hopes of demonstrating a Williams at last weekend's United States Grand Prix fell apart because he is a 'jackass'

The Italian had been due to conduct some demonstration laps at Indianapolis but the plans never reached fruition because he amazingly failed to get in touch with Williams chiefs to make arrangements.

Speaking to Italian magazine Autosprint on Tuesday, Zanardi said: "The test in Indy did not take place because I'm a jackass. I was supposed to be calling the Williams team to finalise the details, but I didn't, I forgot."

The plan to get Zanardi back behind the wheel of an F1 car continues, however, and it is hoped that the demonstration can be rescheduled for the Italian Grand Prix in September.

"The plan goes on," added Zanardi. "The idea is now to do some laps at Monza.

"It's strange, it's more Patrick Head wanting to do this thing than BMW. I hope the current strained relationship between them won't be to the detriment of the test. I promise that when I'm back from Mexico (for the WTCC race at Puebla) I will dedicate myself to it more intensively."
