Grapevine: Brundle denies BBC deal is done

Award-winning commentator and former grand prix driver Martin Brundle is hopeful that he will continue his current role when Britain's Formula One coverage moves to the BBC next year, despite squashing speculation on Monday that his deal was done

The BBC is finalising its 2009 coverage plans at the moment, with former Radio 5 Live commentator Jonathan Legard believed to be favourite to land the leading commentary role.

Sources say that Legard is in the final stages of negotiation to head the commentary team, which will see him return to F1 after a spell in football.

It is expected that Legard will be joined in the commentary box by Brundle, although no deal has yet been agreed.

Brundle said: "Nothing is signed yet. I am hopeful that I can move to the BBC and continue my current role, and we are still in discussions."

BBC sport presenter Jake Humphrey is tipped to replace ITV's Steve Rider as the front man for the coverage, with David Coulthard set to join as a pundit.
