Fry: Ban will Cost BAR Millions

"This is going to cost a huge amount of money," team boss Nick Fry said on Friday after announcing that the team would not pursue legal action to enable them to race in Spain this weekend and in Monaco on May 22.

"I haven't sat down and calculated what it is at the moment but in terms of contractual obligations that we'll have to meet I could confidently say this is going to add up to more than 10 million I would imagine," said Fry.

Formula One's governing body suspended BAR on Thursday following an appeal court hearing into suspicions that their car ran light and with a secret secondary fuel tank at the San Marino Grand Prix.

"The advice we are getting from the lawyers is we cannot do anything in time and we have taken the decision that to prolong this battle will be counter productive to everyone," said Fry. "We know that the other teams have got similar system.

"The fuel tank supplier who supplies us is the same as many of the teams and they have confirmed there's nothing unusual about or system. There have been rumours other people have been looking at their cars overall.

"This is a very Draconian interpretation of the rules and I think it's made everyone look carefully at what their doing."

The team said they will publish the entire submission to court of appeal on its website later today.

"What we are going to do to ensure we are completely transparent is, during the course of the afternoon, we are posting everything from the court of appeal, all our witness statements, all our technical data," Fry added.

"Even though we are giving away some information to our competitors it's better that we do that to show everyone what we've done because we have nothing to hide."

British-based BAR are owned 45 percent by Honda and 55 percent by British American Tobacco.

The Monaco Grand Prix is the social highlight of the Formula One calendar, a glamour race that all sponsors want to attend and a place where deals are done and contracts renewed.
