Friday First Free Practice - San Marino GP

World Champion Michael Schumacher sent an ominous warning to his Formula One rivals in Friday's first practice session ahead of the San Marino Grand Prix as he finished 1.359 seconds clear of Ferrari teammate Rubens Barrichello.

Schumacher, who has won the opening three races of the season from pole position, showed no let up as he sped around the Imola circuit in a time of 1:20.084 despite completing only 11 laps.

Barrichello ended the session second quickest, with third fastest Ralf Schumacher's time for Williams-BMW being more than two seconds slower than his brother.

BAR-Honda test driver Anthony Davidson was fourth in the timesheets after working through 20 laps, with teammate Jenson Button, Williams-BMW's Juan Pablo Montoya and Renault's Jarno Trulli all behind him.

McLaren driver Kimi Raikkonen, looking for a change in fortune after retiring from the opening three races, finished eighth fastest despite completing only four laps.

Spaniard Fernando Alonso, of Renault, and Toyota test driver Ricardo Zonta completed the top-ten after the opening hour.

Jordan test driver Timo Glock had left the track briefly at turn six after 18 minutes of the session and then spun into the barriers after making a mistake at turn 12 with 12 minutes remaining.

Bjorn Wirdheim, the Jaguar test driver, was the busiest man on track after completing 29 laps, but he finished four seconds off the pace in 17th place, while teammate Christian Klien spun in the closing minutes of the session.
