Friday First Free Practice - European GP

BAR-Honda test driver Anthony Davidson continued the strong Friday form he has shown this season when he claimed the top spot in first practice for the European Grand Prix.

World Champion Michael Schumacher looked to have put Formula One back on its main course of Ferrari domination when he led for most of the session but Davidson put in a late lap to steal the glory.

His time of 1:29.447 put him just 0.184 seconds ahead of German Schumacher with Rubens Barrichello relegated to third, 0.418 seconds behind Davidson in the second Ferrari.

Australian Mark Webber, who suffered a torrid time at the last race in Monaco, finished fourth in his Jaguar but completed just six laps to finish one place ahead of Toyota's Brazilian test driver Ricardo Zonta.

Finn Kimi Raikkonen, who did only four laps in his McLaren-Mercedes, just missed the barriers after his first flying lap but finished sixth fastest with Brazilian Sauber driver Felipe Massa seventh.

German Ralf Schumacher, of Williams-BMW, finished eighth with Spaniard Fernando Alonso ninth despite a small spin and Briton Jenson Button, in the second fastest BAR completing the top ten.

Michael Schumacher lost control of his Ferrari and spun sideways after going wide at turn three and Italian Giancarlo Fisichella failed to set a time after he stopped on track in his Sauber.
