Foulston's big plans
Brands Hatch boss Nicola Foulston believes motorsport could eventually rival
football for popularity if her planned takeover of Silverstone goes ahead.
In an open letter to members of the BRDC, which owns Silverstone, she said,
'The BHL Group has the commercial expertise and financial ability to continue
to develop British motorsport from the minority sport it remains today, in
terms of television audiences, spectator attendances and product awareness,
to a level where it can compete with football and other major UK sports.'
Foulston has proposed that if her takeover bid goes through, the BRDC will
become BHL's motorsport organiser, with members' benefits extended to other
circuits under the group's wing.
She has also suggested that the BRDC could appoint the group's motorsport
director, who would co-ordinate BHL's motorsport affairs. It is understood
that she would not demand any title herself.
If the bid goes through, BRDC members could receive a windfall as big as
£50,000. The club's restructuring plan, aimed at repelling Foulston, goes
before its Annual General Meeting next week.
