Fog hampers running at Barcelona

Fog disrupted the testing efforts of Ferrari and Sauber at the Barcelona circuit in Spain yesterday (Thursday)

Once the weather improved Ferrari tester Luca Badoer set the pace with a best time of 1m18.171s. He outpaced Rubens Barrichello, who was back in action for the first time since the end of the season.

Sauber was also present at the test, with both its 2003 race drivers in action. Heinz-Harald Frentzen concentrated on aerodynamic development, while Nick Heidfeld worked on a damper development programme.

Frentzen said: "It's always frustrating to be at a race track and not be able to drive, but once the fog lifted we were able to carry on with our programme. Once again, the car was reliable and we had another productive afternoon."

Weather also affected Ferrari's testing efforts at the Mugello circuit in Italy. Luciano Burti completed only seven laps because of heavy rain, setting a fastest lap of 1m42.776s.

Luca Badoer Ferrari B 1m18.171s 81
Rubens Barrichello B 1m18.684s 20
Nick Heidfeld Sauber-Petronas B 1m19.993s 50
Heinz-Harald Frentzen Sauber-Petronas B 1m20.378s 53
