Ferrari vow to fight until the end
Ferrari team boss Jean Todt says his team will fight until the end of the season despite the disappointment of the Japanese Grand Prix
The Italian squad saw their chances of winning a title this year take a big hit when Michael Schumacher retired with a broken engine while leading from championship rival Fernando Alonso.
Schumacher's retirement means Alonso needs just one point in Brazil to secure his second consecutive title. Renault lead Ferrari by nine points after the Suzuka race.
Todt admits their chances are slim, but the Frenchman claims Ferrari will go to Brazil to do their best.
"Mathematically it's still possible but logically we know it will be very difficult," Todt told reporters after the race. "What is good is to be able to win championships when it's only up to us.
"Now it's not only up to us, it's left to the problems of the others so it's a lot of parameters which will be out of out control.
"But saying that, we will go to the last race hopefully with the disappointment of today behind us and motivated to do get the best possible result and then we will see."
Ferrari could still be proud of their achievements after a remarkable comeback, with Schumacher erasing a 25-point gap to Alonso before the Japanese race.
Todt admitted they were disappointed but vowed to move on.
"We've been in this business for so many years, so when it comes, you must be happy, when it doesn't come you must turn the page and sometimes you must see the unbelievable period we have all been having," he added. "Success, friendship, unique relationships...
"We are fortunate people to be able to exercise our passion, knowing some more difficult things happening in the world, so we must give a weight to each single thing."
