Ferrari launch: Design 'a step forward'
Ferrari's technical director Ross Brawn has said that the new Ferrari F2003-GA represents the biggest step forward in performance that the team has ever made
Speaking at the launch of the new car today (Friday), Brawn also admitted that it was the team's aim to beat its 2003 tally of 15 wins, although he conceded that it would be very hard to achieve.
"To win more than 15 races is going to be very difficult but we will do our best," he said. "Our dedication and commitment to win the championship is still there. This car is probably the biggest step in performance we've made to date."
The F2003-GA is more compact than its predecessor, and features a much slimmer rear-end, along with new oval sidepods that taper in to form a triangle that houses a minimalist drivetrain and compact rear suspension. The seven-speed titanium gearbox is completely redesigned, and is smaller and lighter.
The car, which features a lower centre of gravity, also features new mechanically operated power steering and revised front and rear suspension elements It is powered by Ferrari's new 052 engine, which is mounted longitudinally in the car.
