Ferrari could quit Formula 1

Ferrari could withdraw from Formula 1 at the end of 2007, the company's president Luca di Montezemolo has revealed exclusively to this week's Autosport magazine. The Italian also admitted at Imola that he now believed there is no chance of a manufacturer's breakaway series happening

Despite the manufacturer's GPWC company confirming at Imola that it is once again pushing ahead with a rival series to F1, Di Montezemolo has said he reckons the only two real options open to manufacturers now are to commit to F1 or stop completely.

"I don't think it is possible to find another solution all together and I think maybe to save the future of F1 everybody has to take their own decisions - stop or commit. I don't see a different solution.

"What is for sure is that after the end of 2007 we are free," he said, "we have no deal with anybody. After that everybody can do whatever they want."

When asked whether stopping F1 was an option for Ferrari, di Montezemolo replied: "Yes, why not? This could be one idea."
