Ferrari confident of engine reliability

Ferrari are still baffled by the engine problem that Felipe Massa suffered at the Chinese Grand Prix last week, but they are confident that it was a one-off failure

Massa's weekend in Shanghai was wrecked after a problem was found with his power unit during practice on Friday.

It was the first failure the team had suffered since their difficult start to the season raising concerns about the impact it could have on the title battle.

Further analysis conducted by the engine department in Maranello has yet to pinpoint what exactly was the issue with the engine.

Nevertheless, Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn is confident that his team have no reason to be worried about reliability for the final two races of the season.

"We are still analysing it," he said at Suzuka. "But it looks like a one-off. It doesn't look like a systematic problem with the valves.

"You can never be 100 percent certain, but we have looked at all the other engines with that specification of components and they have looked to be OK.

"We have had several double-race distances on that spec, but we believe it was a one off problem.

"And there is also the possibility of something having gone through the engine and damaging the valve."
