Dupasquier: tyre changes detrimental to F1

Formula One's ruling body, the FIA, has changed the regulations once more for next season after teams were forced to use only one set of tyres for the entire race in 2005.

Michelin, who dominated the season with 18 victories, have been vocal against the changes.

"We don't agree at all," Dupasquier said. "[FIA president Max] Mosley said he would have aimed it all at reducing costs and speeds. We proposed a single tyre for the entire GP and, after a season of good and fought out races, with the Japanese one being on top, I'm happy."

Dupasquier spoke against the return of tyre changes.

"It's a regulation that degrades the value of a Grand Prix, but we don't have problems with the Federation," Dupasquier told Gazzetta dello Sport. "However this year we reaped the fruits of a job started in 2001, with 18 victories and two F1 World Championships.

"Now we have to start over from zero."

Formula One is also due to have a single tyre supplier from 2008, and possibly 2007 if an 80 percent majority of the sport's technical working group can agree on a package of measures by the end of this year.

Dupasquier said Michelin, who had been very critical of the move, had not taken a decision about their future yet.

"Edouard Michelin hasn't yet taken a position, but that's in contrast with the challenging spirit that there must be also between tyre manufacturers," he added. "Without it, you miss one of the aspects which make participating in any World Championship profitable for a company. Except for passion."
