De la Rosa thrilled to be back in action

McLaren's Pedro de la Rosa was delighted to be back in Grand Prix action after taking to the track for practice for the French Grand Prix

"It was great to be out there for my first race weekend since the Bahrain Grand Prix last year," said de la Rosa.

"Running through our Friday programme we are not quite yet where we want to be, however in tomorrow's practice we can continue to improve."

De la Rosa, the regular test driver for the British team, is replacing Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya, who left his position following the news of his move to NASCAR. De la Rosa stood in for the injured Montoya in Bahrain last year, finishing a strong fifth.

The Spanish driver covered just 14 laps today, finishing down in 22nd position, seven places behind teammaet Kimi Raikkonen, whose day was cut short after suffering an electrical problem.

"A normal Friday's programme which unfortunately ended with a small electrical problem on my very last lap," said the Finn. "This didn't hamper our progress today where we focused on Michelin tyre evaluation and set-up work."
