De Ferran: Davidson's day will come

Honda Racing's sporting director Gil de Ferran believes Anthony Davidson will get his chance to race again in Formula One

Davidson has recently been re-signed by the team as their third driver for 2006 and will drive the third car at all Friday free practice sessions this season.

De Ferran said that Davidson has made a considerable contribution to the team since he joined them in 2001 and revealed the Briton was considered for a racing role, depending on how the negotiations with Williams over Jenson Button's contract had ended.

Button eventually settled with Williams, which allowed him to stay with Honda on a long-term contract, driving alongside Rubens Barrichello - who also has a long-term contract with the team.

Nevertheless, de Ferran said today he believes Davidson will eventually get his chance with Honda or another team.

"It is something that we were discussing halfway through last year, but with Jenson Button's situation it was a fairly complex scenario," de Ferran said.

"But Anthony Davidson has been part of the team before I was a part of the team and his contribution to the team is incredible. I was just at the test last week his feedback and contribution to the engineers is essential.

"His role as a third driver will be important [this year], and maybe he will have a [racing] opportunity with us, or maybe he will have an opportunity with somebody else."
