Davidson attacks British GP rookies

BAR test driver Anthony Davidson, who competed in two grands prix last year for Minardi, has criticised fellow Britons Justin Wilson and Ralph Firman for paying for their drives in Formula 1.

Davidson was in the running for the drives at Minardi and Jordan, but was unable to raise the funding necessary to secure either seat, saying that most he could raise was £300,000.

But Davidson told The Sun: "Even if I could get the money together, I would not have wanted to pay for a drive. I've always been paid for my services and I am determined for it to stay that way.

"I hope Justin and Ralph do well because if things go wrong, I will feel sorry for them. I already feel bad for them because I keep thinking 'Why have you done that?' It's such a bad career move. Justin and Ralph will be ill-prepared and will be blown away by their team-mates."

The BAR test-driver also hit out at teams who pick drivers because they can bring money. He said: "F1 is a high-profile sport so why should you have to pay or do it for nothing? I honestly feel it's unfair some drivers have to bring money to a team."

Davidson reckons that he is ready for an F1 drive. "Because of my testing, I feel I could be thrown into a race right now and know I will do a good job," he said. "My face is becoming known and, when the time is right, I'll have the experience needed.

"I feel Justin and Ralph have been blinded by the magic of F1 because what are they going to prove behind the wheel of a Minardi of Jordan?"
