Davidson: Aguri can target points

Aguri impressed with their strong form in the final race of last season in Brazil, where Takuma Sato finished 10th in their best race of the campaign, and the team are bullish about making steps forward with their new car.

And Davidson, who tested Super Aguri's interim car in December, is convinced the team can deliver in 2007.

"The realistic aim is to be in the top ten and even though it is incredibly hard to score points in F1, that has to be the ultimate goal," he said on the Central Stage at the Autosport International Show.  "I think it is doable though.

"It shows how the team came along last year to finish 10th, and in the last race it was unbelievable. I am really, really happy with the team and I believe we can go far."

Davidson, who has finally got his F1 race chance after several years as a test driver at Honda Racing in their various guises, said he never gave up the belief that he would one day get a full-time F1 seat.

"There were times when it gets a bit frustrating, but I didn't ever think it is never going to happen. You never let that enter your mind I suppose.

"I think most people are more positive minded than that to let negativity come into your mind. So I never thought, 'what am I going to do? I am never going to get the chance.' I never thought like that at all.

"It did become frustrating at some points and finally it happened. I knew it was going to happen at some point but not sure when - but it was now."

Davidson said that he had slight feelings of frustration about Honda Racing having not handed him his race chance, but said that he was thankful for their assistance in easing his passage to Super Aguri.

"They (Honda) are a top team and they need a lot of experience now they can win races," he said. "I totally understand why they needed to hire the likes of Rubens (Barrichello) and why they signed Jenson (Button) for a longer time.

"They have been helpful in securing me a drive at Aguri, so I can't be bitter, as they have helped me secure the drive.

"I am still contracted for the longer term at Honda. It is like a big family and a good opportunity to be a part of that."
