Date Set for Michelin Teams' Appeal

The seven Michelin teams' appeal against two guilty verdicts resulting from last month's US Grand Prix tyre fiasco will be heard in Paris on September 28

The governing FIA said the date had been chosen to allow the International Court of Appeal to consider any other appeals that might result from a September 14 meeting at which the teams could be sanctioned.

It said a decision was expected on September 29, four days after the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The teams - Championship leaders Renault, McLaren, Williams, BAR, Sauber, Red Bull and Toyota - were found guilty on two charges at a meeting of the FIA's world motor sport council last month.

They had been charged effectively with bringing the sport into disrepute by withdrawing from the June 19 race at Indianapolis after tyre supplier Michelin advised them that the tyres were unsafe through the circuit's final banked corner.

Sentencing has been deferred to September 14, with heavy fines possible, depending on what efforts have been made to refund the US crowd.

Michelin have already said they will refund race day tickets and buy the first 20,000 for the 2006 race.
