Customer car row hoped to end in Monaco

Although it had been hoped that team principals and Bernie Ecclestone would get together in Spain this weekend to talk further about the matter that has overshadowed the start of the season, the event looks likely to pass without such a get together.

That does not mean the issue has been forgotten, however, with sources revealing that Bernie Ecclestone has been working on the matter in private to try and get it resolved.

It is understood that along with input from at least one senior team principal, Ecclestone has now prepared the definition of what he believes a constructor is.

It is believed it includes the design capabilities, staffing levels and infrastructure details of what a team need to produce a car.

Ecclestone had promised to provide the definition following a team principals' meeting in Bahrain, and it looks likely that the matter will now be raised at the Monaco Grand Prix, where the next team bosses' get together is expected to take place.

When asked by autosport.com what the latest situation on the customer car issue is, Ecclestone said: "We are talking. It will get solved."

He confirmed also that the definition was now ready to be presented to the teams at the next convenient moment.

"We have written it up," he explained. "All of this will happen. We are not talking about money any more.

"Although as I have said before, a gentleman never talks about last night or money."

Any discussions about the current and future situation of customer cars will also inevitably involve discussions about a new Concorde Agreement.

Autosport.com understands that the latest drafts of the document were circulated to team principals in Spain this weekend.

"Yeah, it is all happening," confirmed Ecclestone. "The lawyers are involved, but they are in no hurry, so they can keep sending bills."
