Coulthard wants Mika to test

David Coulthard has asked Mika Hakkinen to test for McLaren as the team gears up for its switch from Bridgestone tyres to Michelin

That is the claim that the Finn has made today in a press conference held in Prague.

Hakkinen is taking a sabbatical from racing next year, but neither he nor the team has ruled out testing at some point next year.

"David has asked me already to come and test," said the double world champion. "It was a little surprise for me but I think that his question was very serious. You know that the team changed the tyres from Bridgestone to Michelin for next year so it is important to have more opinions from different drivers to understand for which state the tyres are and how they suit the car."

But Hakkinen looks unlikely to be in a hurry to get back into the cockpit when the testing ban comes to an end in January. "At the moment I am in a situation that I'm taking time off and spending time with my family as much as I can and I haven't been thinking about going testing," he said."At the moment, I don't want to test and obviously, there's no contract."
