The British Grand Prix is stopped following a heavy crash involving Michael Schumacher.
His car smashed into the wall head-on at high speed at Stowe.

The race will restart at 1340BST.

Lap by lap coverage will continue during the race.

1340BST: Race restarted. Irvine moves into second. Pedro de la Rosa (Arrows) stalled on the grid.

Mika Hakkinen leads. Coulthard in third.

Safety car brought out for removal of Arrows.

Race restarted on lap three. Coulthard tries and fails to overtake Irvine.

De la Rosa retires.

Lap four: Hakkinen extending lead to 2.1s. Damon Hill closing on Ralf Schumacher.

Lap six: Jean Alesi (Sauber) tailing Barrichello's Stewart.

Lap seven: Luca Badoer (Minardi) pits.

Lap eight: Badoer retires.

Lap nine: Hakkinen edging away from Irvine. Top six: Hakkinen, Irvine, Coulthard, Frentzen, R Schumacher, Hill.

Lap 13: Positions remain unchanged. Hakkinen holds 4.663secs lead over Irvine.

Lap 16: Rubens Barrichello is seventh, ahead of Sauber's Jean Alesi. Both Alesi and Jacques Villeneuve (BAR) record their fastest laps.

Lap 18: Hakkinen extends lead to 5.439secs.

Lap 20: Minardi of Gene in pits.

Lap21: Fisichella in pits. Takagi enters pits.

Lap 22: Alesi and Wurz enter pits.

Lap 24: Hakkinen leads. R Schumacher is closing up behind Frentzen. Hill pits.

Lap 25: Coulthard in pits. R Schumacher and Frentzen enter pits, R Schumacher goes ahead of Frentzen in the pits - Frentzen had a long stop.

Lap 26: Coulthard overtakes Hakkinen. Irvine in lead - he hasn't pitted.

Lap 27: Irvine exits pits, Coulthard just keeps lead. Hakkinen pits again, with a 27.6secs stop after a problem with the left rear tyre on the McLaren.

Lap 29: Coulthard leads Irvine by 0.720. R Schumacher third. Hakkinen back in eleventh after pitstop. He puts in the fastest lap of the race with a 1.28.309.

Lap 30: The left rear wheel of Mika Hakkinen's car falls off, he limps back to pits. Cars behind Hakkinen narrowly avoid tyre lying in the middle of the lap.

Hakkinen rejoins after another tyre change.

Lap 31: Villeneuve out. His BAR parks up on the start/finish straight. Marshalls push it off the track.

Safety car comes out.

Lap 32: Safety Car in at the end of this lap.

Lap 33: Order is Coulthard, Irvine, R Schumacher, Frentzen, Hill, Barrichello.

Irvine right up behind Coulthard and charging. Barrichello overtakes Hill. Alesi enters pit.

Lap 34: Coulthard leads by 0.651secs. Order Coulthard, Irvine, R Schumacher, Frentzen, Barrichello and Hill.

Lap 36: Hakkinen a lap down, but is trying to climb up the field, by trying to pass R Schumacher.

Lap 37: Hakkinen enters pits again - retires. Irvine continues to chase Coulthard.

Lap 38: Irvine closes gap to Coulthard to 0.468secs. Barrichello closing up on Frentzen.

Lap 39: Gap from Coulthard to Irvine increases to 0.718secs. Panis pits.

Lap 41: R Schumacher and Herbert enter pits. Barrichello continues to chase Frentzen, and is closing. Ferrari prepares to receive Irvine for pitstop.

Lap 42: Irvine gets out after 7.1secs pitstop. Gets out ahead of R Schumacher to retain second. Coulthard into pits - 6.3secs - and out in fourth.

Lap 43: Zonta off the track.

Lap 44: Frentzen leads, then Hill 3.59secs behind. Coulthard now third, Irvine fourth, R Schumacher fifth.

Lap 45: Frentzen pulling away and leads by 4.021secs. Jordan mechanics getting ready for a pitstop. Frentzen into pits, Hill leads GB Grand Prix. Frentsen pitstop - 6.8secs.

Lap 46: Hill pits, Coulthard now leads. Hill pitstop - 6.1secs.

Lap 47: Coulthard leads Irvine by 2.2secs.

Lap 48: Hill overtakes Barrichello. Coulthard leads by 2.6secs. Barrichello slowing down and into pits - 6.1secs. But, down to 13th place. Herbert given 10-second stop-go penalty.

Lap 49: Race order: Coulthard, Irvine, R Schumacher, Frentzen, Hill, Herbert. Frentzen chasing Schumacher hard, gap down to 0.45secs. Hill also closing, picked up a second on last lap.

Lap 51: Coulthard leads Irvine by 3.823secs. Diniz in sixth as Herbert takes stop-go penalty. Fisichella chasing Diniz hard.

Lap 52: Hill takes another half second off Frentzen's lead for fourth.

Lap 53: Fisichella wanting championship points, narrows gap on Diniz again. Irvine puts in his quickest lap of the race - 1.27.782.

Lap 54: Gap between Frentzen and Hill down to 1.89secs.

Lap 55: Race order - Coulthard, Irvine, R Schumacher, Frentzen, Hill, Diniz.

Lap 56: Coulthard's lead over Irvine now 2.7secs. Frentzen has dropped back.

Lap 57: Irvine narrows gap again to 2.454secs.

Lap 58: Ralph Schumacher ahead of Frentzen by 1.395secs. Barrichello overtakes Wurz and moves up to ninth. Coulthard skids just before home straight, but gap stays at 2.4secs.

Lap 60: Coulthard wins British Grand Prix, his first victory of the year and fifth of his F1 career.

Irvine is second, R Schumacher third, Frentzen fourth, Hill fifth, Diniz sixth.
