Bridgestone pleased with F1 tests

Bridgestone bosses are hopeful the recent Formula 1 tests will improve the performance of next year's tyres

The majority of F1 teams tested the 2000 specification tyres during December at the Spanish circuits of Jerez and Barcelona.

Ferrari remained at its home circuit of Fiorano for the first two weeks of December before joining the other teams at Jerez for the final tests.

Bridgestone Motorsport's Technical Manager, Yoshihiko Ichikawa, attended the tests in Spain and was happy with the feedback received from the drivers regarding next year's tyres.

'We are preparing new compounds for the year 2000, which are working as well as we expected,' said Ichikawa.

'The new compounds provide greater stability.

'There was a fairly big difference in performance in terms of lap time between the compounds of the 1999 specification tyres making it easier for the teams to make their tyre choice.

'The compound of the 2000 specification tyres means that these differences in lap time have been reduced and that the teams will have a more delicate choice to make in compound.'
