Brazilian GP back on
It has been confirmed that the Brazilian Grand Prix is not in any danger for next year. The race's promoter Tamas Rohonyi told AUTOSPORT that last month's suspension order has been overturned by a higher court
Rohonyi said that preparations are now proceeding normally. This follows a ruling from Sergio Coimbra Schmidt from the Chamber of Justice that nullified the original order by Judge Joao de Vicenzo that the race was a drain on the city's economy.
Schmidt believes that a cancellation at this late stage would do more harm than
good. Thus the race will go ahead in October next year as scheduled, but it will be under observation by local authorities with a view to its longer-term future.
"We will have the GP," Sao Paulo's sport's minister Nadia Campeão told the Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper. "We hope to be able to discuss the renewal of our agreement with the promoters by four or five years, having already prepared our defence against the court action and produced a broad study of the benefits for Sao Paulo, which has been requested by the public prosecutor's office."
The late-season date is a first for Brazil, as the race has traditionally been held around March.
