Brave enough to bet against BMW?
All those punters who backed Michael Schumacher to win the 2001 drivers' title collected their winnings after his victory in Hungary two weeks ago, but bets are back on this weekend for the Belgian Grand Prix and while the world champion is the favourite at Spa, the smart money could be on Williams to score its fourth win of the season - if it stays dry
The power of Williams' BMW engine blew away the opposition on the last high-speed circuit at Hockenheim for the German Grand Prix. Ralf Schumacher has taken all three of the Grove-based team's wins this season, but if his talented team mate Juan Pablo Montoya is to taste victory this year, the drivers' circuit of Spa could be the place to do it.
According to British bookmaker Ladbrokes JPM is 6-1 to take pole and the same price to win Sunday's race. Ralf is 11-4 to win the qualifying battle and is 3-1 for the race. However, if the predicted rain does fall, which is quite likely at Spa, that could stymie the team's chances as their Michelin tyres don't perform as well in the wet as the Bridgestone rubber of McLaren and Ferrari. Watch the skies before you place your bet...
And it might prove worth your while to check the weather forecast before Saturday's qualifying too, because if it does rain in the hour-long session you could be well-placed to benefit from an upset. Outside the Ferrari/McLaren/Williams drivers, Jarno Trulli is 80-1 to take pole and any other driver is priced at 100-1.
