Bosses, Drivers Meet after Indy Fiasco
Formula One drivers and team bosses held an extraordinary meeting at the French Grand Prix on Saturday to discuss what went wrong at Indianapolis last month
The drivers and bosses of the seven Michelin teams that withdrew from the June 19 U.S. Grand Prix, leaving a race of just six cars, met in the Renault motorhome for a debriefing.
McLaren boss Ron Dennis said the drivers had wanted to understand fully the detailed reasons why they had been unable to race.
"They are a little bit more enlightened about what happened on that weekend," he said.
Dennis and other team bosses explained to reporters on Friday the sequence of events that led Michelin to conclude that the tyres were unsafe and could not be used through the final high-speed banked corner at Indianapolis.
He said also that local Indiana law could have exposed the teams to serious legal action if they had raced without a temporary chicane being installed before the final corner, even if there were no major accidents.
