BMW accept stewards' decision

The BMW Sauber team said they accept the disqualification of Robert Kubica from the Hungarian Grand Prix

Race stewards said in a statement that Kubica's BMW Sauber was found to have run two kilos too light. Poland's first Formula One driver, replacing Canadian Jacques Villeneuve, had finished seventh in his debut race.

The stewards found the reason for the car being underweight was the excessive tyre wear, and said it was entirely inadvertent.

BMW said they had no choice but to accept the decision.

"During the post-race technical inspection of the car, it was found to be two kilograms underweight," said BMW's technical director Willy Rampf.

"The reason for this is that the intermediate tyres on Robert's car were in use for 51 laps and had sustained unexpected high rubber wear.

"That was the case above all in the final stages of the race on a dry track. There's no ambiguity about being underweight. We just have to accept it. The FIA made it clear that there is no question of implied intention."
