Berger hails Vettel's impact on STR

Sebastian Vettel's arrival at Scuderia Toro Rosso has helped transform the atmosphere within the team, claims owner Gerhard Berger

Vettel arrived at the team at the Hungarian Grand Prix to replace Scott Speed, who had fallen out with the senior management in previous weeks.

And although Vettel has not yet scored any points for Toro Rosso, team co-owner Berger has already noticed the positive impact that the young German has helped lift team spirits.

"We have a good atmosphere here now we have Sebastian here with Tonio (Liuzzi)," said Berger. "With Tonio the atmosphere is fine, and things have changed completely. Everything is perfect.

"If you go over to the pits everything is fine, so I think the move to Vettel did very well for team.

"It is nice to have a driver who is happy with what he gets. We are Toro Rosso. There is no secret that we cannot give the same as Ferrari, McLaren or Renault would give, so everybody that enters our team cannot come with an expectation that he gets onto a level of Ferrari. It just doesn't work.

"But it doesn't need a lot of brain to understand this. With Sebastian he is very happy. He sees it as a first stage in his career and it helps us very much. We need people to understand that we have some weaknesses in the team."
