Barcelona a Test for Pizzonia

The Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona next weekend will be crucial for Antonio Pizzonia's future at Jaguar, team sources said today.

The Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona next weekend will be crucial for Antonio Pizzonia's future at Jaguar, team sources said today.

Pizzonia has driven more than 15,000kms around the Barcelona track in testing for Williams last year, and the experience should potentially help him show his capabilities. Failing that, team sources stated Pizzonia could well be replaced. A possible candidate mentioned was McLaren's test driver, Alex Wurz.

Nevertheless, Jaguar's communications manager Nav Sidhu stated the team have not yet made a decision to drop Pizzonia and insisted they would support the Brazilian and help him improve.

"We have not taken a decision to drop Antonio Pizzonia and, on the contrary, we are working very closely with him today at a test in Mugello," Sidhu told Reuters.

"It's clear that he hasn't had the best start to his season but nonetheless we are committed towards addressing this and helping Antonio."

Pizzonia debuted in Formula One this season. His best grid position in four starts was 15th, and his best race finish was 13th.
