BAR Silent on Drivers Speculation
The BAR-Honda team have refused to comment on speculation regarding their driver line-up for the 2006 season
Amid rumours that Rubens Barrichello will join the team next season, sporting director Gil de Ferran said the Brackley-based squad are happy with their current line-up.
"A lot has been said over the weekend but we have no comment about the driver line-up for next year yet," said de Ferran. "I don't know when we will, we will see."
"I think he [Barrichello] is a very good driver. Our drivers are also very good. Every team needs the two best drivers they can get. I think the only way you win Constructors' Championships is by maximising your chances and getting the two best possible drivers.
"Having said that, there is nothing wrong with the two drivers we have now."
BAR driver Jenson Button has a contract with the Williams team for next season, although the Briton has said his intention is to stay at his current team.
Button's teammate Takuma Sato, struggling to match the Briton's performances this year, could find himself out of a drive at BAR if Barrichello arrives and they manage to keep Button.
De Ferran believes that, despite his current problems, Sato has a future in Formula One, but the sporting director refused to comment on the Japanese driver's position at the team.
"As I said, I have no comment on the 2006 driver line-up," he said. "I think Taku has done a good job for our team over the last few years, I think he is still relatively inexperienced but he is a driver with good potential."
