Alguersuari defends non-F1 racing

The 19-year-old Spaniard lies third in the World Series standings after scoring his first victory of the year at the Algarve circuit last time out, and will contest world karting's blue riband event at Sarno in Italy this weekend.

He believes that the experience of racing as often as possible will help his development as a driver and is not worried about burnout.

"I'm 19 years old. I think as a karting driver, I act as a karting driver and I continue to be a karting driver even when I am in F1," Alguersuari said.

"Being an F1 driver at my age is a privilege that requires me to become better every single day, so I try to fight with the best drivers in the world outside of the F1 [as well]. On the Sarno track there will be the best drivers in the [karting] world."

Alguersuari added that he has the approval of Scuderia Toro Rosso bosses Franz Tost and Giorgio Ascanelli to continue racing outside of F1.

"With Franz, we understood each other perfectly from the first moment we met - the same with Giorgio Ascanelli," he added.

"Both are very demanding but they agree with me that, based on my age, I should continue a process of training at a top level - which I would have developed if I didn't enter F1 so early."
