Formula 1 teams fill up on super-soft tyres for Italian Grand Prix
Formula 1 teams have filled up their tyre allocation for the Italian Grand Prix with super-softs, with Mercedes among the minor outliers
Mercedes, which is engaged in a fierce fight with Ferrari for both the drivers' and constructors' titles, is only of only three outfits not to take the maximum number of 10 sets of the softest tyre for the Monza weekend.
Force India and Haas are the other two teams, which will have three sets of softs to play with for the weekend. Their rivals will have just two.
As Monza's main requirement is straightline speed, and there is less tyre degradation, there was little incentive to choose the soft or medium options on performance grounds.
The Monza decision comes ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix weekend that could be a different story on the tyre front, with Pirelli taking the ultra-soft there for the first time.
Pirelli is expecting at least a two-stop race at Spa-Francorchamps with the ultra-soft likely to experience high degradation on the circuit's challenging high-speed corners.
