Carlos Sainz Jr, meanwhile, outqualified team-mate Charles Leclerc for fifth. Esteban Ocon was also impressive, taking sixth on today's grid ahead of Lando Norris, Leclerc, Pierre Gasly and Sebastian Vettel.
Bottas hurled his W12 on pole yesterday, edging Hamilton and denying the Brit his 100th pole. But the Red Bulls are on the next row, and so it could be a real battle royale...

It's only the second time F1's been to Portimao in a racing capacity, and it's a circuit which seems to throw the generally considered tyre hierarchy out of the window. It'll be interesting to see what happens...
