Hamilton jumps up from P12 to P3 with a 1m20.508s. Bottas improves his personal best to head the times with a 1m20.423s.
Everyone has posted a timed lap inside the opening eight minutes of the session.
Verstappen complains on the radio about a brake by wire issue. He comes into the pits.
Sainz lowers the benchmark. He puts Ferrari on top but its short-lived as Bottas fires in a 1m20.805s.
It's worth noting a 1m19.648s for Bottas was the benchmark in FP1.
It appears the teams will be given a full hour session. In the past, sessions have been shortened when there has been delayed starts.
Given how close FP1 was we could be set for another really tight session. Worth keeping an eye on Hamilton as we are yet to really see his true pace on the softs.
For the weather fans out there. Conditions are bright and sunny at Portimao.
The surprise of FP1 was George Russell who ended up seventh fastest in the Williams. The Brit was 0.881s shy of pacesetter Bottas.
Charles Leclerc was fourth for Ferrari ahead of Hamilton, who was unable to complete a proper flyer on the soft tyres.
While we have a delay it is worth recapping FP1 a bit more. Bottas and Verstappen headed the field with the sister Red Bull of Sergio Perez 0.198s adrift of the pace.
The exit of Turn 11 appears to be the area of concern for the FIA.
Obviously safety is paramount so officials want to make sure the drain covers are firmly fixed. We have seen this before...
The delay is understood to surround drain covers on the exit of corners. FIA race director Michael Masi and his team have been inspecting the circuit.
Looks like we have a delay. The session start has been delayed by 10 minutes.
Just to recap from from this morning's session. Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas edged Red Bull's Max Verstappen by 0.025s. Lewis Hamilton ended up fifth.
Welcome back to live updates from the Formula 1 Portuguese Grand Prix. Free Practice 2 is coming right up.
A good first FP1 outing for Ilott, just 0.4s down on wily old fox Raikkonen in the other Alfa Romeo.
Leclerc went fourth at the very end as Hamilton struggled to improve on his final couple of laps.
Perez now goes third to close out the session, 0.15s off Verstappen's best.
Leclerc raises his hand in frustration at Hamilton, who didn't fancy letting the Ferrari go by through the last couple of corners. Lads, it's practice, keep it civil.
Hamilton now gets up to third, 0.3s off Bottas' time. Perez, meanwhile, goes fifth.
In the other Ferrari, Sainz bowls a wide in the penultimate corner, ie. Turn 14. The drivers don't love that corner particularly...
"It's impossible to drive, mate," says Verstappen, who just went 0.025s off Bottas on that previous lap. His car doesn't look amazingly stable, granted, but we'll hold off our sympathy.
Verstappen then drops a 1m19.673s, suggesting the tyres weren't all that vibration-y. F1 drivers, eh?
"I can't even see where I'm going, there's so much vibration," Verstappen moans. He gets asked if he wants to come in, but decides he's more happy on track...
Soft tyre warm-up taking a couple of laps here, the drivers don't look amazingly confident on them straight out of the box. One to note for quali.
At least, Russell DID go P3, but then Gasly intervened and took the third-best time for himself with 15 minutes remaining.
Bottas gets us into the sub-1m20s, doing a 1m19.648s with a full house of purple sectors. "Arch-rival" Russell, meanwhile, goes P3.
