We're carrying on behind the safety car. Verstappen locked up and went off the road, so he'll have to regain the two places he needs to make up on Hamilton and Russell to regain fourth.

Antonelli says he's struggling to see behind the safety car, so we're expecting a few more laps of this.

Formation lap begins

The Aston Martin safety car leads the field away, and we'll hopefully find out shortly if we get a standing start.

Visibility does look very poor for the drivers. "A big river in Turn 10," according to Piastri, who starts from second.

This is going to be interesting - nobody's going to want to take too much risk in this sprint, because otherwise there's a hefty repair job to do between the sprint and qualifying sessions.

Tyre choices for Miami GP sprint

According to the timing screens, we've almost got a full house of cars on the intermediate tyre - except Carlos Sainz, who appears to be starting on the full wets. Williams may be taking a punt on more rain here.

Five minute warning

No news on any delays so far, so we've got to assume we'll be starting on time. Looks like the sky has cleared up somewhat, although it's still going to be difficult.

The formation lap will be starting behind the safety car, and then we'll have to see how much racing we get in this shorter race.

Antonelli: F1's youngest pole man

The emergence of Andrea Kimi Antonelli in sprint qualifying for Miami, a circuit that the young Italian had never been to, was arguably unexpected. Although it's not a "proper" pole, Antonelli nonetheless becomes the youngest polesitter ever in an F1 race at just 18.

For those who follow the junior categories, Antonelli's prodigious rise might not necessarily be a surprise - but others may indeed wonder how the Bologna-born teen made it to F1.

Given the ease at which Leclerc drifted into the wall amid the rain, it'll be very surprising if we a) start on time, or b) don't start behind the safety car.

Conditions look incredibly treacherous out there - a complete sea change (pun slightly intended) to yesterday's beating sun. It's not raining right now, but it's looking very wet on-track.

Leclerc out of sprint race after crash

Charles Leclerc has crashed out on his way to the grid for a rain-soaked Miami Grand Prix sprint race, the Ferrari driver complaining of aquaplaning.

The Monegasque will thus not start from sixth on the grid, and requires repairs to his car before qualifying later today.

Tsunoda to start from pit lane

After a frustrating SQ1 session where Red Bull somewhat fumbled his timings, Yuki Tsunoda will start the sprint race from the pitlane as the team registered a change to his suspension set-up.

As Tsunoda's car had to be pulled out parc ferme to do so, this was deemed a breach of the FIA's Article 40.9 b) in the sporting regulations and thus surrenders his 18th-placed qualifying position.

Rain in Miami

"It’s been absolutely chucking it down here. The rain has eased, and has nearly stopped, but the ground is soaked and there's no sun. So it'll be a spicy start to the race - and everyone's still currently hiding from the rain."

Although the rain has eased, Rebecca says it's very damp under foot in the stadium.
