Live updates from Friday's action at the Miami International Autodrome

Build-up to the inaugural Miami GP has been non-stop this week but finally track action gets underway, as F1 reverts to its traditional weekend format having run its first sprint race of the season last time out at Imola.

Charles Leclerc leads the F1 drivers’ standings by 27 points from Max Verstappen following the Dutch driver’s domination at the Emilia Romagna GP two weeks ago, as Ferrari heads the teams’ standings by 11 points from Red Bull.

While teams and drivers will be getting to grips with a brand new circuit, a range of upgrades are expected to be on show during practice as teams push on with the development with the new regulation cars.

Opening practice for the Miami GP gets underway at 7.30pm BST (2.30pm local time), followed by qualifying which starts at 10.30pm BST (5.30pm local time).

Carlos Sainz has put the Ferrari on top of the timesheets with a 1m31.463s on the medium tyre.
Mick Schumacher has been told to box as he has a loose sidepod on his Haas.
Grip still looks hard to come by on track. Albon on his first flying lap in the Williams made a mistake rounding Turn 7 as he slid out wide.
Esteban Ocon sets the early pace on the medium tyre with a 1m32.906s.
It's unclear at this stage whether Valtteri Bottas will be out in this session after his crash in FP1. His Alfa Romeo didn't look ready to run, nor did his team look like they were in a rush.
Ahead of FP2, Red Bull has changed Max Verstappen's gearbox as a precaution after his barrier tap in FP1. The world champion is currently still in pitlane.
The coming hour-long session will likely largely be dedicated to race running, as is typical for FP2 sessions.
Track temperature has come down a little from FP1, with it now around 44 degrees Celsius.
This weekend's Miami round is the first of 2022 where Mercedes has brought a significant upgrade package to its car, and both drivers have looked strong so far.
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc led the first session a few hours ago from Mercedes' George Russell.
Good evening and welcome back to live coverage of Friday for the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix. FP2 is coming up in 15 minutes.
We're going to take a quick breather ahead of FP2, which gets underway at 10.30pm BST (5.30pm local time) - a little over 90 minutes away.
To get a lap together in qualifying tomorrow drivers are going to need to find the perfect spot on track and on tyre temperatures. Anything less and it is either a slow lap or a trip into the barriers.
A mixed bag from this viewpoint. The first sector is fast and flowing all the way to Turn 11, then it feels like the track shrinks as drivers try to thread the eye of a needle until Turn 16, with a long straight and hairpin to finish.
A couple of near-misses to end a frantic session, as Russell almost clashes with Gasly and Magnussen nearly collects Ricciardo at pit exit. The visibility from in these cars is tricky at the best of times.
Gasly pops up to fifth late on using the softs to provide a very mixed up top 10. But that's largely to be expected given it is FP1 at a brand new track.
Sainz, on mediums, moves up to fifth late on and 0.430s off his team-mate, with a representative lap time compared to those on softs.
Hamilton gets a clean lap in and goes sixth, 0.858s off top spot, as the chequered flag comes out to call an end to FP1.
Russell moves up to second place again with a 1m31.169s to push Verstappen down to third. Hamilton has his first push lap on the softs wrecked by a slow Tsunoda at Turn 14 and has to back out.
Ah, there we go, Leclerc goes top with a 1m31.098s on the softs. Charles must have heard us.
Still no complete soft tyre push laps from either Ferrari driver, which explains why Sainz is fifth and Leclerc is eighth in the closing moments of FP1.
Russell, on his second push lap on these softs, moves up to second fastest just 0.097s off Verstappen's leading effort.
Verstappen does improve by less than a tenth of a second to extend his advantage at the top of the times by 0.577s.
Russell cannot topple Verstappen or Albon with his lap on the softs as he slots into third place for Mercedes, while the Red Bull driver is winding up for another quick lap.
Albon goes second fastest, also on the softs, with a 1m31.854s. Impressive.
Verstappen goes fastest with a 1m31.350s on the softs - over a second quicker than anyone else so far.
Sainz has come a cropper on his first push lap, he looks to have picked up a puncture on his front-left tyre which triggered a spin at Turn 4. Thankfully for the Ferrari driver he avoids the walls and is able to limp back to the pits.
Plenty of takers for the final 15 minutes of track action in FP1, but not for Hamilton so far who snuck up to second place on the times just before the red flag.
The stricken Alfa Romeo has been karted off the track on to a patch of grass behind the barrier and right in front of the fans. Not quite the show car look the team was after.
Bottas appeared to be pushing on a bit and the rear snapped away as he ran wide approaching the Turn 7 apex. That sent him off into the wall and out of this session.
We have our first crash of the weekend - it is Bottas at Turn 7 - who has clattered the wall with the rear wing and rear-right wheel. That's caused a red flag.
