As if the red flag and penalty action wasn't keeping the race stewards busy enough, a first turn incident involving Perez and Verstappen has been noted.
Because we're red flagged, Stroll doesn't have to pit - he can take fresh tyres.
Hamilton jumps on his scooter to presumably take a different kind of 10-second stop-go.
Hamilton, who currently leads this race under the red flag stoppage, will need to serve his 10-second penalty once the race restarts. Hamilton is discussing the situation with Bonnington out of his car in the pitlane.
You know how we mentioned Norris locking up, backing up the pack at the pitlane? He's now under investigation for that.
The rest of the top 10: Sainz, Norris, Bottas, Latifi, Ricciardo. All bets are off at this point.
The marshal pulls out a smoking wheel from the tyre barrier. Tonight, we salute the silver anniversary of the great Springfield Tire Yard Fire, twenty-five years and still burning strong!
Hamilton has indeed been given a 10-second stop/go penalty for entering the pitlane when it was closed.
Stroll is second, and yet to stop. Gasly HAS stopped, and he's P3. Raikkonen has stopped and he's fourth, from Giovinazzi - who also has a stop-go.
So, let's take a breather as the cars are being led around to the pitlane. We're at pretty much exactly half-distance. Hamilton leads, but has a 10-sec stop and go.
"Are we going to get a penalty?" Hamilton asks his Mercedes team. "I believe we are going to get a penalty," comes the response from Pete Bonnington.
They're going to need to repair the tyre barriers, so the race has been paused forthwith.
Ah, Leclerc just got a bit of a tank-slapper running off-line at the Parabolica and slapped into the tyre barrier.
Giovinazzi has been given a 10-second stop/go penalty for entering the pitlane when it was closed.
Leclerc's okay, thank goodness. We have a safety car for that.
Latifi, who had pitted safely before the safety car, is being eaten up as he drops from P7 to P10 at the restart.
Gasly pitted as well, as had Leclerc, so they're right up the order.
Raikkonen and Latifi are sitting pretty, having already stopped!
And the safety car is coming in this lap! The plot thickens a little more...
Stroll is the only driver not to pit once the pitlane opens so he is up to second place behind Hamilton.
Sainz and Norris double stack - Norris manages to buy a little time by locking up at the entry.
Track marshals are pushing Magnussen's Haas car across the grass and into the pitane. Naturally, the pitlane isn't closed for a car that is no longer in this race, but for the rest of them it is.
Lewis Hamilton and Antonio Giovinazzi are under investigation for entering a closed pitlane.
Now, the timing board says that the pitlane entry was closed as the safety car came out. And both Hamilton and Giovinazzi pitted...
Hamilton pitted - but Sainz, Norris and Perez have had to stay out as the pitlane entry was closed!
With the stranded Haas car in a tricky place to be rescued the safety car is out.
Magnussen reports "something broke" has he pulls to the side of the track within sight of the pitlane.
On Lap 17 Albon gets by Leclerc to take P13. Nothing to really shout about for either driver, it must be said. Albon still has his five-second time penalty to serve, as Leclerc pits at the end of that lap.
"I can't race with these engine settings, it's a joke," Bottas complains. The usually cool Finn is feeling the heat.
Now, Bottas' cooling woes has brought Verstappen right on his six. It's going to be a tight battle for sixth if Bottas can't speed up.
Having lost seventh place to Verstappen early into this race, Stroll has dropped out of DRS range of the Red Bull driver. Those following the Racing Point driver - Ocon, Gasly and Kvyat - are holding station as the race approaches the pitstop window.
Hamilton is told to short shift to manage tyres, but is also told it might not be so healthy for the power unit.
We're waltzing towards the pit window here, Pirelli reckons the soft runners will come in at the end of lap 16.
Bottas is taking a different line on the straights as he seems to be overheating a bit - and he's not used to running in dirty air.
After his first lap pitstop Magnussen is on the hard tyres in 19th and last place, but he is lapping at the same pace as the drivers in the top eight - albeit aided by running in clear air on his own.
