Norris in at the end of his 31st lap, just as Leclerc was homing in. No spoiler tactics, then as he embarks on what is now a nailed-on one-stop.

1.9s pitstop so it's going to be trebles all round for the McLaren crew tonight.

That blisteringly fast stop means Norris comes out ahead of Alonso on track - advantageous for him.

Meanwhile Verstappen has made his way past Hamilton and Hadjar, into P9, and hung his hat on a 'Driver of the Day' nod in the fan vote.

Norris goes purple on his 34th lap. That brings him to 8.6s off Russell in P3.

We're informed that the 'incident' between Verstappen and Hamilton at Turn 4 is under investigation.

Let the debate about axle position relative to apex rage! Will Laurent Mekies have to bring photos of the in-car feed to his post-race press conference?

Stroll now pits at the end of his 36th lap, emerging in P12 ahead of Alex Albon's Williams.

George Russell is told that his pace is great. His response is to "let me drive" - that's because Norris is now 6.4s off.

Lando might have been closer but he has just dipped his left-rears in the gravel and been on the receiving end of a ticking off from Will Joseph.

Norris goes purple again. Russell is coming up to the battle between Colapinto and Tsunoda for 19th place.

Undercut on Leclerc or tyre delta to Lando? That's the menu laid in front of Piastri in terms of strategic choices.

Alonso now pits after 39 laps on those mediums. He emrges in P8 ahead of Hamilton.

"Box to overtake this lap" Piastri is told. The McLaren pit crew comes out... but Piastri doesn't pit. Too late for Ferrari - they've responded and brought Leclerc in.

Piastri is informed that he has a six-second margin to Gasly, who is P17 but running ahead on track.

Norris is now right on Russell's rear wing - but there's to be no battle because, at the end of lap 43, the Mercedes peels off into the pits.

That leaves Norris P2, 9.5s behind Piastri in P1.

25 laps remain and Piastri has put 26 laps on those hards already...

Piastri pits at the end of lap 45. That puts Norris in the lead. Another 1.9s stop for the McLaren crew.

Piastri emerges P3, 5.3s behind Leclerc and 6.5s ahead of Russell.

Masses of traffic for the leading group to cut through now. Norris has got by Tsunoda and Hulkenberg (P18/P19), now he's got ALbon ahead of him, then a brief respite before Bearman.

After Bearman, Norris must contend with Hamilton, Gasly, Ocon, Sainz and Hadjar, then Antonelli. Leclerc and Piastri now 2.9s apart and closing in on Hulkenberg and Tsunoda.

Verstappen pits at the end of his 48th lap. He emerges P9, just ahead of Antonelli's Mercedes - but Kimi is on 27-lap-old tyres.

Gasly is next up for Norris to pass, since Hamilton – whose mediums are just six laps old – has gone past the Alpine.

PIASTRI GOES BY LECLERC

That's for net position - Piastri outbrakes Leclerc to go around the outside into Turn 1 at the beginning of lap 51.

One less job for the leaders - Bearman retires. He has been complaining that his car is "broken" and was told rear-end damage had shifted the aero balance.

Someone who hasn't been paying attention now posts a question in the Haas WhatsApp group asking why Bearman retired.

If only they'd been reading this live feed.

RANTATION

"It's a miracle if we finish on the podium" harrumphs Leclerc down the team radio. "You just have to listen to me, I would have found a way of managing those issues."

Norris now has Hamilton (P12) ahead of him on track. He has 6s in hand over Piastri, a gap which includes Ocon and Gasly.

15 laps to go and both McLaren drivers have been informed of light rain at the north end of the circuit.

5.5s the gap between the McLarens with 14 laps to go and nothing on track between them now Piastri has cleared Gasly and Ocon.

Last time around, Piastri was half a second faster than his team-mate.

Hamilton, Hadjar and Antonelli coming up next for the leaders. Hamilton actually lapping up to a second faster than those cars ahead of him so this will be an interesting scenario. Norris and Piastri reeling him in at around half a second per lap, so they will be there in four laps or so.

The 'incident' between Verstappen and Hamilton earlier on, by the way, will be investigated after the race - which means both drivers will be summoned to the stewards before a verdict is reached.

Verstappen is still P9 and right on Liam Lawson's rear wing - where he has been for the past few laps.

Ahead of Norris, Hamilton is now within DRS range of Hadjar, who is 1.2s off Antonelli. Norris is shortly to arrive on the scene of this ding-dong.

Piastri continues to shave Norris's lead by half a second or more per lap, so he will likely be on his tail by the end of lap 63.

Russell has now arrived in Leclercland and is giving the Ferrari's rear wing a thorough examination.

Russell complaining that Leclerc moved under braking at Turn 1 when they began their 61st lap.

At the start of lap 62 Russell tries again, Leclerc squeezes him, but Russell gets by on the inside.

Russell gets on the team radio to complain again and uses a naughty word, thankfully obfuscated lest the FIA president clutch his pearls.

Norris complaining that traffic has ruined his race. Well, dare we venture that the tyre delta has done that but the Hamilton-Hadjar-Antonelli traffic might just be about to administer the coup de grace.
